As parents and families become increasingly concerned about hygiene and safety, the cleaning and disinfection of small-scale amusement facilities have emerged as a new focus for industry regulation. Since 2024, market supervision authorities in many regions have launched special inspection campaigns, uncovering issues such as untimely cleaning of ocean ball pits and excessive bacterial levels on climbing structures at some amusement venues. For instance, testing conducted at a shopping mall’s naughty fort revealed that bacterial counts reached as high as 23,000 per square centimeter—far exceeding the national standard limits.
The new version of the "Safety Code for Small Amusement Facilities" introduces hygiene requirements as mandatory provisions for the first time. It stipulates that components with high-frequency contact—such as slide handrails and ocean balls—must be disinfected daily before opening, while a comprehensive disinfection process must be carried out weekly, accompanied by the establishment of detailed records. Disinfection must be performed using child-safe disinfectants; products containing chlorine concentrations exceeding 500mg/L are strictly prohibited. After disinfection, facilities must ensure adequate ventilation for at least 30 minutes before reopening. Additionally, operators are required to prominently display disinfection records in visible areas, allowing consumers to monitor compliance.
Leading companies in the industry have established robust hygiene management systems: Nantong Tianjia Study & Research Museum implements a "twice-daily disinfection and weekly deep-cleaning" protocol, while its ocean ball pool employs a dual disinfection approach—combining ultraviolet light with manual cleaning—and is equipped with dedicated sterilization equipment. Meanwhile, Nanjing Hexi Goldland Plaza has partnered with third-party testing agencies to conduct monthly hygiene assessments, with results publicly disclosed in real time. Hygiene and safety have become the primary factors influencing consumers' decisions when choosing entertainment venues; surveys reveal that 78% of parents say they would prioritize facilities that openly share their disinfection records, putting businesses failing to meet hygiene standards at risk of losing customers.
