In November 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation officially released the new version of the "Safety Code for Small Amusement Facilities" (GB 34272—2025), replacing the 2017 edition of the recommended standard. This marks the entry of China's safety regulation for small amusement facilities into a mandatory era. The revision addresses key industry challenges through systematic improvements, achieving significant breakthroughs in areas such as safety protection, material control, and structural design. ​

At the protective design level, the new standard for the first time clearly defines pinch-clearance values for critical areas such as the head, neck, and fingers, and increases the chamfer radius of sharp edges on facility surfaces to ≥2mm, effectively eliminating the risk of cuts. Additionally, addressing children’s climbing behaviors, the standard introduces new anti-climbing design requirements: platforms taller than 3 meters must be equipped with anti-rollover guardrails, with spacing no greater than 11cm. On the material safety front, lead content control has been expanded from the "coating level" to the "total lead content in materials," mandating that base materials like plastics and metals contain ≤90mg/kg of lead. Meanwhile, the scope of phthalate restrictions has been broadened to include all flexible components that come into direct contact with skin, and a mandatory requirement has been added limiting formaldehyde emissions from artificial wood panels to ≤0.124mg/m³. ​

In terms of structural safety, addressing the trend toward "heightening" small-scale amusement facilities, it is now mandatory for platforms taller than 3 meters to undergo comprehensive structural load calculations—including static strength, fatigue strength, and stability analyses. Additionally, the safety factor under extreme operating conditions must be increased by 30%. On the emergency management front, the new standard clearly mandates that enclosed play areas—such as indoor adventure parks—must be equipped with at least two independent entrances and exits, with evacuation passageways no narrower than 1.2 meters. This measure effectively resolves the longstanding challenge of escaping from confined spaces during emergencies. Implementation of this standard is expected to reduce accident rates in small-scale amusement facilities by 40%, providing a robust safety framework for the more than 200 million children across China who enjoy these attractions daily.
